RENO, Nev. -- Washoe County health officials say the air quality in the Reno area has improved enough to lift restrictions on wood-burning. The health district rescinded the Red Burn Code it issued on Monday, raising the code to Green by Tuesday morning. That means it is okay to use Fireplaces, wood stoves and pellet stoves. Officials say a strong temperature inversion that trapped pollutants close to the ground was responsible for the elevated levels of fine particulate air pollution. They say the cutback on burning on Monday combined with the winds picking up helped clear the air.
